4 years ago this month, Ella became part of our family. ♥️
We were not looking for a pet, but I instantly fell in love when I met her. We knew that adopting a blind senior dog would change things, but we had no idea how much.
I was sedentary for several years due to a knee issue, a difficult pregnancy, followed by a fall that damaged my good knee. When Ella came home, I took her for walks multiple times a day. After a few months, we were going further in our walks. I lost some weight and grew stronger. I realized that I was no longer afraid of falling...an overwhelming fear I lived with for 4 years.
In January 2016, I started wondering if running was possible...and started thinking about my long time dream of running the NYC Marathon. In March, I decided that if I could run one mile that I would go for it. Nine months later, I completed the NYC Marathon. I owe that to our sweet Ella Bella. If it wasn’t for her, I’d probably still be just sitting on the couch.
She still loves to walk, but the walks are a bit shorter and slower these days. Her and Gizmo love to keep me company though. Milo still hasn’t quite come around to a dog that wants to lick and snuggle him. 🤣
