[WARNING... LONG POST]
As I spent some time to reflect on life, my accomplishments, my dreams, my ambitions... the fact that we are half way through 2019!!! I realized a few things. For starters, I LOVE quotes. So here are a few that have help frame my mind.
“A period of darkness is essential in order to expand personal awareness. Experiencing sadness and loss makes a person appreciative of life, more tenderhearted, and open to living life as an ecstatic journey of discovery.” -Kilroy J. Oldster
I love this because in order to appreciate the good, you need a frame of reference of the bad. Otherwise, you can take for granted what is in your hands. For me, this was all too real not so long ago. I was in a dark place, in fact I may have sounded a bit like Bane from Batman...”Oh, you think darkness is your ally. But you merely adopted the dark; I was born in it, moulded by it. I didn't see the light until I was already a man.” I have been on a journey of getting my mind right. I’m thankful for my friends and my leaders who ask and follow up with me to see if I’m ok, even if I come off as that strong friend. Who push me to not stay in one place too long even if I’m being stubborn. Who challenge me to not just get back to my former glory but to be a new version of myself. The mind is a powerful thing and it has the power to make and break you. With that, I leave you with the ever inspiring words of Dale Carnegie, “Happiness doesn’t depend on any external conditions, it is governed by our mental attitude.”
