Bab-i-Humayun, Istanbul, Turkey - the term 'Sublime Porte' became a synonymous with the central government of the Ottoman Empire. For much of the history of the empire the Ottoman Sultans ruled out of the Topkapi Palace. The palace was built on the orders of Sultan Mehmet Fatih, the Conquerer, who finally subdued and conquered Constatinople and the Byzantine state on May 28 1453. Originally known as the Yeni Seray, or New Palace, the imperial residence would later take the title of Topkapi, or Cannon Gate. The Topkapi Palace would remain the heart of Ottoman power until 1856 when Sultan Abdulmecid I would take up residence in the newly constructed Dolmabahce Palace which would remain the seat of government until the Ottoman Empire collapsed in 1922, with the Yildiz Palace taking this role for a brief 20 year period. Pictured here is the Bab-i-Humayun, or Imperial Gate. This is the outermost gate of the Topkapi Palace and leads to the palace's main courtyard. The Bab-i-Humayun came to act as a literal representation of the idea of the Sublime Porte in much the way that the Moscow Kremlin or the Palace of Westminster do to the Russian and British political systems. This came to be as the Sultans, who also went by the titles of 'Caliph' and 'The Shadow of God on Earth', would announce new laws and decrees at the gate, a practice the Ottomans had inherited from the Eastern Romans.

Topkapi Palace. Back in the 15th century, the palace served as the main residence and administrative headquarters of the Ottoman sultans. The gate pictured here is the Gate of Felicity which leads to the third courtyard of the palace, which housed the private residence of the sultan. Only the sultan, his family, his servants and occasional approved visitors were allowed to enter this area. . . . . . . . . . . . #istanbul #turkey #turkey🇹🇷 #travel #travelblogger #instatravel #travelgram #traveleurope #topkapi #topkapı #palace #europetravel #europe_tourist #femaleblogger #femaletravel #travelling_europe #travelphotography #travelbloggers #turkeytravel #ottoman #ottomanarchitecture

EN: Rumeli Fortress is a medieval fortress located in Istanbul, Turkey, on the European banks of the Bosphorus. It was built in 1452 on the orders of Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II, for a planned Ottoman siege on the then-Byzantine city of Constantinople, with the goal of cutting off maritime military and logistical relief that could potentially come to the Byzantines' aid by way of the Bosphorus. The fortress was designed by architect Müslihiddin. The outer curtain walls of the fortress are 250 m long from north to south, and vary between 50 and 125 m long from east to west. It has one small tower, three main towers, and thirteen small watchtowers placed on the walls connecting the main towers. Hırka-i Şerif Camii İstanbul’da Peygamber Efendimiz’e ait 2 tane hırka bulunuyor. Biri Topkapı Sarayı’ndaki Hırka-i Saadet diğeri ise Veysel Karani’ye verilen ve miras yoluyla günümüze kadar gelen Fatih’teki Hırka-i Şerif Camisi’nde korunan Hırka-i Şerif. Efendimiz'in (s.a.s) miraca çıkarken üzerinde bulunan Hırka-i Şerif, O'nun vasiyeti üzerine Hz. Ali ve Hz. Ömer tarafından Veysel Karanî’ye verilmiş. Hırka-i Şerif, Veysel Karanî evlenmediği ve çocuğu olmadığı için ölümünden sonra kardeşi Şihabeddin el-Üveysî’ye geçmiş ve 1500 yıllık emanet bugün Veysel Karanî’nin 57. kuşak torunu olan Haşim Köprülü’ün eşi Nuriye Köprülü’nün 2005 yılında vefatı üzerine, kızı Gülay Köprülü’ye intikal etmiş. Aile, 1600′lü yılların başında Sultan I. Ahmed’in daveti üzerine İstanbul’a gelmiş ve Hırka-i Şerif, Şükrullah El Üveysî’nin Fatih civarında kiraladığı evde ziyarete açılmış. Bu evin yetersiz kalması sebebiyle I. Abdülhamid günümüzde Hırka-i Şerif Camii avlusunda kalan mekana bir oda inşa ettirmiş ve 1780 yılından itibaren sergilenmeye başlanmış. Ziyaretlerin yoğunlaşması üzerine bu oda da yetersiz kalınca Sultan Abdülmecid 1847 yılında Hırka-i Şerif Camisi’ni inşa ettirmiş. Hırka-i Şerif günümüzde halen burada ramazan ayında sergileniyor. Sorumluluğu ise Veysel Karanî’nin soyundan gelen ailede bulunmaktadır. Camiinin diğer bölümlerinde restorasyon çalışmaları devam ediyor. #hırkaişerifcamii #hırkaişerif #hırkaisaadet #osmanlı #ottomanempire #ottomanarchitecture #ottomanart #fatih#istanbul #mimari#architecture #sultanabdülmecid #sanat#art #şehirlerkraliçesi #tarih#history

📍Şeyh Zafir Türbesi / Sheikh Zafir’s Tomb • Beşiktaş - Istanbul _____ Beşiktaş Serencebey yokuşunun eteğindeki Şeyh Zafir Külliyesi Art Nouveau tarzında inşa edilmiştir. İtalyan mimar Raimondo d'Aronco'nun başyapıtlarından biridir. Külliye; türbe, kütüphane ve çeşmeden oluşmaktadır. Türbenin mimari şekli II. Abdülhamid tarafından üç farklı eskiz arasından seçilmiştir. Kare şeklindeki yapının üstünde Osmanlı tarzında bir kubbe yer alır. Demir ve taş oyması işlemeli kapı ve pencereleri vardır. Binanın üst kısmı ise Art Nouveau stilinde gül desenleriyle süslenmiştir. İki taraflı mermer çeşmesi Sultan’ın tuğrası dışında Türk çeşmelerine benzemez. Çeşmenin üstünde bitki ve çiçek motifleri ve tepesinde Japon tapınaklarını andıran iki küçük kule vardır. _____ The Sheikh Zafir Complex at the foot of Serencebey Hill in Beşiktaş is one of the masterpieces of Raimondo D’Aronco (The Italian architect), built in Art Nouveau style the complex consists of a tomb, a library and a fountain. The tomb was chosen by Sultan Abdulhamid II among three different sketches of D’Aronco. The square shaped building has an Ottoman dome, ornamented doors and windows and rose patterns typical of Art Nouveau on the upper part of the building. The two sided marble fountain bears no similarity to Turkish fountains of the era except the Sultan’s Tugra*, is decorated with plant and flower motives and has two little towers on top which resemble Japanese temples styles. *Tuğra: Sultan's signature http://www.istanbullite.com/istanbulstories/raimondodaronco.html

Visited Edirne today, for the first time ever. It is a very small city but a peaceful part of the country. Goes without saying that It wouldn’t be fair not to visit Selimiye Mosque - by The Master Architect of Ottoman Empire Mimar Sinan - This was a very remarkable piece of art, he himself called it his masterwork. The mosque stands tall and proud, reflecting a powerful era. And the serenity you sense and feel when you get inside.. and the blissful silence is very soothing and calming. #travelling#turkey#edirne#art#islamicart#mosque#architecture#picoftheday#postoftheday#localtourist#feelinggood#instadaily#travelpost#ottomanarchitecture#landmarks
