Not my usual kind of workout video 😅😬 when Josh and I finally got around to doing some pads this evening (I tend to dance around and make an idiot out of myself when I’m nervous 🤣) I thought I’d film some of our session, I’m very new and still making lots of mistakes so plz be kind 🥴 when @christhebullboxing asked me if I wanted to fight my initial thought was no, why? Because it the thought of it scared the sh*t out of me, so that’s exactly why I said yes 🤷🏻‍♀️ so in less than two months time I’ll be doing Fight For Your Manor, a white collar boxing night run by the best gym for it @mymanorlondon 💪🏼🖤 this is possibly the most challenging thing I’ve decided to do to date, I am struggling with it daily and know I still have A LOT to work on but I’m also loving the challenges I’m facing and what I’m learning daily, not just about my body but also about myself. Heavy lifting and bro sessions will be on pause for a while whilst I try nail this boxing thing 🥊 and luckily I’m surrounded by the best people to help me get there. I have changed how I train in the past week. It’s more about volume and intensity even when I use weight. When I say volume, I mean combining 4 or more exercises together. Perform all the exercises back to back and call it a set, then perform 3 to 4 sets. Once I’m done with that, I pick another combination of exercises and perform another 3 to 4 sets. After that I might perform a triceps/bicep workout for about 3 to 5 minutes no rest or maybe train abs. Example: Deadlifts Dumbbell Sumo Squat Hip thrust and Half Goblet squat. 3 Mistakes KILLING Your Gains ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Training for the pump! This isn’t gonna get you anywhere but look bigger for a couple of minutes. Yes the pump is important, it’s a clear indication that nutrients are being brought to the muscles but progressive overload will always trump chasing a quick pump in the gym 💪🏾 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Training a muscle once a week! There’s so many studies that have been done that suggest training a muscle twice a week is optimal for muscle growth. I don’t know about you but I’d hate having to wait a whole week to train a muscle again 😴 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ No Goal! How can you possibly progress somewhere if you have no clue WHERE You want to go. Training through a full contractile range is extremely important for full muscular development and a factor that is often overlooked by people who train or PT's for that matter when peogramming Have you ever thought "this move is pretty easy at lockout" or "this is so heavy at the bottom" both of those statements would usually imply that the the weight would overload the lengthened position of the muscle, essentially when the muscle is stretched under load What it would make sense to do is train another move for that muscle group by choosing one that is heavier at the lockout portion of the lift. Everyone should include some form of single leg training in their strength exercise regime. . Why? Probably most importantly to address muscular imbalances. These can easily be masked doing bi-lateral squat, deadlift or leg press patterns. You may never get a complete balance but being closer reduces the risk of an injury significantly. . Most sports also require strength from each leg, so it makes sense to put a focus into your training towards this. . From an aesthetic basis having symmetry is something most people probably desire (and competitively is part of scoring points) and to do so effectively you would increase the volume for the lagging side until you measure up the same. . For those of you who don’t love having a heavy iron bar weighted on your shoulders or in your hands, single leg training gives you the opportunity to still get a decent stimulus with reduce weight or none at all depending on the complexity of the movement. . The single leg squat off a box is perfect example of such an exercise.
