Since I’ve been enjoying getting outside for some extra exercise on the weekends AJ & I have picked up the hobby of hiking! Does anyone know of some good spots to hit up in the north shore area?! LMK⤵️ Weekends used to be where I ate and drank what I wanted. It was my reward after completing a week of exercise & routine meals.. Balancing out my lifestyle has helped me tremendously and now I want to get out, explore, and increase my HR every day!! Exercise is NOT a chore. I share a lot about how blessed I feel to be Director of Park Avenue Theater (a children’s theater ministry located at Trinity Presbyterian Church) and how much it strengthens my soul and purpose every single day...but I don’t know if I share enough about my role as Director of Youth Ministries (also located at Trinity Presbyterian Church) and how much it inspires my heart and faith in the most indescribable ways. I love that my job has two parts to it...and while they might seem like 2 very different ministries to others, to me, they really are one in the same. 💛 . Last week, we took 16 of our youth on our annual Summer Youth Week, a week full of Arizona adventures together, which is always a blast and blessing to watch their friendships and hearts grow during this week together. One of our adventures last week was an overnight trip in Phoenix to be nearby a water park in the valley, which was extra fun! ☀️ . A couple of my youth girls asked me if I’d still be doing one of my daily AKT on-demand workouts at the hotel, the morning before our water park adventures began and asked if they could join...of course I said YES! I’m so proud of the girls that ended up joining us in doing their first AKT @theaktstudios workout! (we busted out Sweet Dream Express Full Body with @theannakaiser herself! 👊🏽) They all did such a great job and had a blast and my heart was bursting with excitement to share it with them! (I’m also proud of the girls that really wanted to join us but decided to get a little extra sleep instead because getting enough sleep is just as important!) I love every moment I get with my youth...they all bless my life in so many different ways and I love them more than they could ever know. ✨

In this clip I show you the preacher curl and how to do it correctly and avoid some common mistakes. • The first mistake I see is when people don't take the bar all the way down. Don't hyper-extend at the elbow but stop just short of it. Full range of motion is important. • The other mistake is when people move their upper arm when it should stay in place and the elbow should be moving only the forearm. If you take a rope and both ends of the rope are moving, there is no tension on the rope. The bicep isn't really moving anything if you roll your shoulder forward while taking the bar down. • The most common of all is resting at the top position instead of contracting the muscle hard. That's a wasted repetition because the full contraction wasn't there. The reason you are able to relax is because the forearm reaches a perpendicular angle to the ground and the weight is acting on your joint, not your muscle. • So the fix is to lean forward a little bit, drive your elbows into the mat, and then curl the bar up. Because you leaned forward, you are avoiding that no-tension zone where your forearm is perpendicular to the ground so at the top you have to flex very hard to control the weight. • Watch this video carefully as I demonstrate the right and wrong form of this exercise. • Hope this helps. Save to elbows by learning how to do the lying triceps extension correctly with a barbell. You have heard people say that this exercise is bad for your elbows if you go heavy. Well that's because they do it incorrectly. • In fact, because this exercise is called skull crusher, people think you have to bring the bar down to your skull. That's wrong. Anything that causes joint pain or increases risk of injuries or even getting hurt if you go heavy is wrong. • I believe that if you can do an exercise as heavy as you can completely pain free, you are doing it correctly. • To save your elbows, you need to have your upper arms at a 45° angle above shoulder height so that when you contract at the top you are using your triceps to fight gravity. • Don't bring it down to your skull because the bottom position where the bar is almost on top of your head gets very painful for the elbows, and at the top if you arms are straight out in front of you at perpendicular angle to the floor, the top position will have no tension on the triceps because you can rest there. • Bending the wrist can also decrease the range of motion. You only have to move the elbow while everything remains still.. even the wrists (ESPECIALLY the wrists). • Watch this video carefully as I demonstrate the right and wrong form of this exercise. • Hope this helps.
