Checking in between the wedding and the reception! My ankle is doing better than expected, thank God! I’m able to put weight on it when needed, which is helpful. Staying off of it as much as possible, though. All that unilateral strength work is paying off now - my balance and ability to move my body with my good side is sooooooo much better than it used to be.
I wanted to take a minute to tell you all about a client of mine.
Let’s call her Susan.
Susan came to me eating 600-1000 calories a day. Every day.
She should be eating closer to 2000 calories a day, based on her activity and demographics.
But Susan (like just about everyone else) has been taught that weight loss came down to a simple math equation - calories in had to be less than calories out.
And while that’s true (we aren’t an exception to thermodynamics), what simple CICO doesn’t account for is our body’s own ways to protect itself.
As we take in less energy, our body starts to down regulate functions. We stop moving as much, without realizing it. Our hormones get whacky.
I asked Susan to trust me 6 months ago. We almost doubled her daily food intake over a period of months.
We sat there a few more months.
We just recently started a deficit phase.
She’s now steadily losing 1-2 lbs a week...EATING MORE FOOD than when she came to me.
Her energy is better. Her sleep is better. She’s eating well.
And she’s losing weight.
I’m grateful that she trusted me. One of the hardest conversations to have with a potential client is the idea that we might need to increase food intake for awhile first.
Our society tells overweight people to just eat less.
My clients here “Are you SURE you should be eating that?” over and over again as we work through a reverse diet.
Because all overweight people are overweight purely because they eat too much, right?
Sometimes we have to show your body some love - and EAT! - before the weight comes off.
Have a great day friends - get outside and eat a good meal at some point. I’ll see you soon!
❤️❤️ share the love....double tap!❤️❤️
