❣️M E N S T R U A T I O N // C E L E B R A T I O N❣️ Yesterday I released the final design for my Eco collection - the Sacred Release mala. There’s a little twist to the charity donation for this one. . . The £5 donation will go directly to the wonderful women @ecofemme India (see below for more information about their work) AND I’ll also be popping in a packet of Organyc sanitary pads to my local @theredboxprojectuk - @redboxprojectbrighton. I’ll have a red box at my house (so if you live locally, feel free to pop some pads or tampons over!) which I’ll be collecting from the lovely Emma. Once it’s full the contents will be donated to schools and youth provisions in my area. . . A little more about the charities in their own words... . . @ecofemme: ‘Eco Femme is a women-led social enterprise founded in 2010. Based in Tamil Nadu, India, our goal is to create environmental and social change through revitalising menstrual practices that are healthy, environmentally sustainable, culturally responsive and empowering. We produce and sell washable cloth pads, provide menstrual health education and open dialogues on menstruation all along the way.' The work that EcoFemme are doing is truly inspiring ❤️ . . @theredboxprojectuk: 'The Red Box Project is a community-based, not-for-profit initiative, which aims to support young people throughout their periods by providing red boxes filled with free period products to local schools.’ They grew out of Portsmouth, responding to the issue of Period Poverty and now have boxes nationwide, boxes that never go empty thanks to the support of the public. I strongly encourage you, if you haven’t already heard of RBP, to look up your local project and get involved if you can ❤️ . . All malas will be listed from 9am tomorrow (Monday) morning! So fucking grateful for this amazing group of humans who are also doing their 200hr YTT with me this Spring. Authenticity is EVERYTHING. Stealing... is it really only taking someone's possessions that dont belong to you? Legally maybe, but how about looking deeper in our everyday life? ⚖ One of the ethical codes of conduct in yoga is Asteya or non-stealing. The word yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word “yuj”, meaning to yoke or to join. But what exactly are we uniting? There are may levels of union, from the metaphysical to more concrete concepts. To start, we can think of union as linking the mind, body, and breath. Through yoga, we train to understand our thoughts and feelings in order to act with intention. By being deliberate and attuned to our senses, we find clarity. What we are doing is constantly learning about ourselves and making improvements when we feel the need. That’s why the physical practice of yoga or the asanas are an initial step towards overall mindfulness. On our mats, we are cultivating self-awareness through the poses. We listen and challenge ourselves. This can mean deepening a pose or backing off. Every time we practice, we are learning how to react to challenges more gracefully and peacefully. The postures or asanas are a part of the 8 limbs of yoga. I’ve noticed a trend that is, unfortunately, all too common. ___ Yoga, to the West, is focused mainly on the physical postures. I too felt this way. ✨T E E N // Y O G A✨ As an alumni of the @teenyogamindfulness TT (the winter of 2013, just before I had my daughter) and an ex-Secondary teacher, it's a charity that's never far from my heart. The charitable arm of this, @teenyogafoundation, do some incredible work making yoga accessible for all young people and getting it into schools and youth provision to help create a generation of resilient, compassionate people. Their teachers are some of the best I know and hearing how far Charlotta and TY have come in such a relatively short time is both encouraging and inspiring to me! . . I'm thrilled that the Teen Yoga Foundation will be the recipient of donations from the Rasa Lila malas (£5 per sale of each design). . . Here's a little about TYF in their words: 'Our main mission is to promote the well-being of young people through the practice of yoga, in schools and elsewhere, in the UK and abroad. We do this through a range of activities: research, events, promotional activity, shared spaces and resources, and solidarity work. The aim is to bring all these activities together under one umbrella to make the most of synergies and ensure that all the efforts made to promote young people’s well being through yoga are coordinated and working in the same direction.' . . Day 18 - Spring Clean! 5th Yama Aparigraha (non-hoarding). The practice Aparigraha does not require that we get rid of all our stuff, just our attachments to all our stuff and the idea that a car, a phone, or a pair of jeans can make us happy. And in getting rid of these attachments, we’re able to see clearly what it is that we truly need, and so get rid of anything that we don’t need, the stuff that just weighs us down. Clean out your closet and donate to a second hand shop or community centre. Another option is to sort old toys and donate to a community creche or shelter. We will be collecting donations at the studio for the two places below. Um dos objetivos da jornada do yoga é integrar o físico, o mental e o espiritual. Patanjali, um grande sábio, coordenou e sistematizou o yoga em sua obra Yoga Sutras. No segundo aforismo do primeiro capítulo dos Yoga Sutras, Patanjali define : “O aquietamento das ondas mentais é Yoga”. Ele descreveu os oito estágios para se atingir a comunhão com o Ser interior. WELLBEING WEDNESDAY 💕 . I sometimes hear people say that they are not good at yoga. My answer is always that there’s no such thing as “being good” at yoga 🙈 . Yoga is not all about being flexible and looking good in crazy poses. Yoga is so much more. It can be described as a way of being and a lifestyle 🙏 . Yoga is not only practiced on the mat. It’s practiced in your mind, your soul, your relationships and in your daily actions 💪 . Also, “yoga is boring” or “I dislike yoga” are not statements I believe in. After having tried one yoga class, you’ve encountered 1 style of yoga and 1 type of teacher. There are so many different types of yoga! Some of them are strength building focusing on the core, some focus on flexibility in the hips, and some of them are restorative focusing on destressing. Style, focus, teacher etc. all influence the class you’re taking 🧘🏼‍♀️ . Also, asanas (the physical aspect of yoga) is only ONE part of the eight limbs of yoga. Other parts involve behavior, mindset, breathing and meditation 🧘‍♂️ . Yoga involves not harming others (AHIMSA). I found this picture taken some years before and it makes me think how simple a yoga practice can be. You do not even need to much knowledge since otherwise you can even over stimulate the mental. ✨A B U N D A N C E✨ Up on my SoundCloud is a guided pranayama and abundance visualisation exercise leading into ten minutes of silence ❤️ Having practised this meditation all week it’s become a kind of medicine for where I find myself right now. . . Last week’s theme based on the Rasa Lila malas was play and the dance of divine love or Rasa Lila in Sanskrit. I had lots planned in terms of exploring the theme and telling you about the charities linked with the malas etc...and then I was hit with an ear infection that I still haven’t managed to shift. It’s on it’s way out thankfully - the local doc here where I’m spending time away with my family even got in a newly-qualified colleague to take a look so she could ‘see a really bad one’ 😂 - but the launch of my eco collection and the newsletter is now delayed and for a few days I still felt that tug of, ‘should’ and ‘have to’. . . Until I remembered what last week’s theme really means. Contrary to what a lot of ‘online entrepreneurs’ may argue, abundance has nothing to do with money, or how many clients you have - that’s just busy-ness. Abundance is about living in a state of perpetual gratitude to the point where we can still notice the small things, even when illness or other challenges arise. I live in abundance when I realise that the rest of my body works fine and that, ordinarily, so does my right ear and I feel thankful for that. . . So I’m giving myself a couple of days. Maybe the collection will launch on Monday and the newsletter will be sent out relatively on time, maybe they won’t. Thankfully no one will die if neither of those things happen when they ‘should’. . . And how are you today? What abundance is around you? What is there to be grateful for today? Look who came to mummy and me yoga today to be my assistant ...halfway through the class he whispered to me "mama you're a really good teacher" Did my heart explode right there and then..yes!!! I choose to be a full time mother because that's what I want and fortunately am able to do. I want to be there when they come from school, to prepare their meals, to fold their laundry. And so often this is what Jules sees me do ...so I felt an enormous rush of love but also a surge of pride that he saw me in my other role as a teacher, he saw, he observed and he commented....that's a big deal in this mama's day 🙏💙

Those are pretty important too. ———— On the real level though, love is one of the most powerful tools we have to implement into our daily practice. ———— In the eight limbs of yoga it is known as the Yama Ahimsa. Ahimsa is the first Yama, believed to be the most foundational, and the first step to self realization. Ahimsa essentially translates to non violence. Constraining from any hostile, aggressive, or violent act. Not only the physical aspect of violence (hitting someone), but the mental aspect as well. This could mean saying something negative about yourself or someone else, it could be making a sarcastic comment to deflect, or it can take a more obvious form, such as an aggressive reaction to something someone has said directly or indirectly. ————- Ahimsa practice may be seen an felt as a restraint at first, but eventually becomes a natural virtue and second nature to the practitioner.
