MAJOR RANT WARNING: I was on my morning run and my second lap around the neighborhood I noticed this sign.. a young girls head with an ax at it... with all the horrible things happening in our country right now, more than ever before (murders, mass murders, suicdes..), I would say we have done a concrete job of putting pressure and demand [protests, letters, boycotts] on law enforcement/politicians TO DO BETTER (if they are or are not doing a better job is not the point of this post). But what about crap like this? Why aren’t we putting pressure on film makers, marketing chiefs, and artists to stop putting sh* out like this?? Ohhh, because it sells... well, that’s sad. That would mean there is statistical proof that there is enough demand to put BILLIONS of $$ into these genres of films, ads, and songs - ohhhh, wait, that demand comes from... us? The same people writing, protesting, and boycotting to put an end to deaths over there, but why not here? In the areas that literally mold and shape majority of our thoughts and emotions. Oh. So we need to look in the mirror. Maybe if it’s us making the demand for the crapy content, we can’t blame them for putting it out.
How about instead of spending mass energy blaming an entity, we spend a fraction of that energy looking at ourselves, bettering ourselves, being kind to people, talking positive, speaking (and demanding) life, not death... I’m not saying we ignore the facts of what is indeed taking place in our country (and way too often) but I’m saying let’s spend more time trying to change what we actually have control of, vs. spending time blaming. If we truly want change it’s going to take effort from everyone in every realm, not just the lawmakers, and not just the content creators but the ones that those areas serve. Us. It’s an ecosystem. Feed it better.
