I never had many friend in school. I did not mix well with the definition of this society of normal kids. I was more interested in girlish stuff than boyish ones. My grandmother was my best friend. She was with me through thick and thin. She knew about me and my interests in men and it never really botheres her. She accepted me as I am and loved me with all her heart.
I wasn't a sound student academically. I was more into art. Puppet making, designing bags and pillow covers, they were more my things. After all my grandmother taught me all that, how could I be bad at it?
I was in high school when my grandmother passed away and I was heart broken. With her gone, I did not know what to do with my life. On my father's advice, I took a year's break and decided to turn all my grandmother's teachings into a career. I decided on going to a fashion school.
I moved to a new city and decide to start fresh. I have always had a feminine touch to my clothing for which I have been criticised and made fun numerous times. I became so insecure of myself that I completely changed my look. I couldn't even talk to people properly because of my low self esteem. I started dressing as I was expected too
In our film industry, a gay character is always shown in a comic role who is ready to pounce on any guy that he gets his eyes on. Being from the LGBTQ+ community, it hurts to see how wrongly we are being portrayed.
My friends have helped me a lot in overcoming my fears and taught me to love myself. I can say that today I am on my way to make my career a successful one. But I think my true success will be when people would openly accept me as I am, like my grandmother did. We still need to educate people a lot about LGBTQ+ community. People need to stop treating us like a taboo. More than that we need to teach people of LGBTQ+ community to love themselves. If you are not going to accept and love yourself then no one else would. I hope that one day situations change. I hope that one day we progress in true sense.
